The offseason rumor mill is heating up, and the Boston Celtics may be preparing for a summer that could reshape the franchise.
According to NBA analyst Kevin O’Connor, Boston would “without a doubt” trade Jaylen Brown in a deal for Giannis Antetokounmpo. O’Connor also reported that the Celtics are making calls around the league and are willing to discuss every player on their roster except Jayson Tatum.
The report comes at a pivotal moment for Boston. The Celtics face significant financial challenges with one of the NBA’s most expensive rosters, while Tatum’s injury recovery creates uncertainty about the immediate future. Those factors have fueled speculation that Boston could look to make a major move rather than simply running back the same roster.
While Brown remains one of the league’s premier two-way wings and was instrumental in Boston’s championship run, Antetokounmpo represents a different tier of superstar. A two-time MVP and one of the NBA’s most dominant forces, Giannis has consistently been mentioned in trade speculation as questions continue to surround the direction of the Milwaukee Bucks.
A hypothetical pairing of Tatum and Antetokounmpo would instantly create one of the most formidable duos in basketball. The combination of size, defensive versatility, playmaking, and scoring would make Boston a championship favorite for years to come.
Of course, whether Milwaukee would have any interest in such a deal remains the biggest question. Any package centered around Brown would likely need additional assets attached, and the Bucks would undoubtedly explore competing offers from around the league before making a decision on the future of their franchise cornerstone.
For now, the speculation remains just that. But if Giannis ever becomes available, the Celtics appear ready to be among the most aggressive teams in pursuit.
What do you think? Would you trade Jaylen Brown for Giannis Antetokounmpo if you were Boston’s front office?
